there is a 500 rpm difference in 4th and 5th. if you can do it in 4th, chances are you can do it in 5th.

as for me, my car will do about 105 or so in 3rd gear, and seeing as my speed govenor is 112, well, you can see i have no chance in hell of reaching redline in 4th or 5th. even without a speed govenor my tires would go and id be dead before i hit redline in 4th or 5th.
How in the hay are you hitting 105 in 3rd gear?

simple. out gear ratios suck. i dont speed anymore tho, not a problem anymore

but yeah, actually, our first gear is nice! its just when it hits 2nd, we have our first problem...
losing half your rpms in a single shift dont work good =p

I still don't understand how you are hitting 105 in 3rd gear. Unless I am imagining things, seems like 3rd gear maxes out at around 80 or so. I don't really know because I have never looked to be honest. I was redlined in 4th yesterday at just a hair over 100mph though.

One thing to rememeber is that with 205/40/17's on your ride, when your speedo reads 100 MPH you really are doing "just" 95.86 MPH and likewise if it reads 105, you're just cracking 100.

But the biggest problem down here (So. Florida) are the Canadian snow birds, they come with their cars, the speed limit on a road may be 45, they match that speed on their speedo... but they are doing ONLY 45 kilometers per hour which is like slow, slow, slow... see it all the time. ha!

mbow, my speed in second gear VERY closely matches the rpms of my engine: 1000 RPM = 10 mph, 6000 rpm = 60 MPH, redline = 70 mph

I can hit 70 mph in 2nd gear. 105 in third is easy. its also what the car was rated for (more or less) on any online site that gives details about cars in general.

i didnt realize that others werend getting the same deal. just assumed they were all teh same. maybe you got a different tranny ion your car

Now you are really messing with my head. I have never actually looked but I just don't see how you are going over a 100 in 3rd. I am going to hit the highway after I pick up my wife from work tonight and see where 3rd redlines. You have got me going insane! You have a 7thgen vic right? ex?

Oh, and quit messen with me!

you dont even have to get up to speed!

redline in 2nd, and see how many rpms you lose going to 3rd

hell, redline in first, and see how many rpms you lose!

i have a 2001 HX.

If we have teh same tranny, youll redline in first at around 35ISH, redline in 2nd at 70, redline in third at 102-107, it really becomes dependant on your redline (every car seems to be a bit different, my redline is 7100 to 7200)

which means in MY car (112 speed gov) i cant hit redline in 4th gear, much less 5th. im not joking. I'm not gonna say anymore about other websites or magazines tho, cause even tho i know ive read this in more than one location, i cant back it up. ill rely soley on my in car experience, and yours

oh hey! i just remembered! we DO have a different tranny! i remember that now, my 2nd gear isnt as spaced out as yours! thats right, our first gear is a bit lower than yours, or your second is higer than ours, damn! i forgot exact details >.<

no, i remmeber now, our tranny is definitely different. lemme try to find my ratios.

you:

TRANSMISSION
Type 5
Transmission Type Description Line 1 Manual
Gear Ratio (:1), First 3.143
Second 1.870
Third 1.241
Fourth 0.970
Fifth 0.757
Reverse 3.231

me:

Type 5
Transmission Type Description Line 1 Manual
Gear Ratio (:1), First 3.461
Second 1.750
Third 1.166
Fourth 0.857
Fifth 0.710
Reverse 3.230

we have a better first gear, but we lose more rpms to 2nd. our third gears are too close fo ryou not to be able to hit over 100 in third!

I don't know anything about gear ratios and such but here are my findings. I was bouncing off the rev-limeter @ 55mph in 2nd gear. I reached 84mph in 3rd at 6800rpm so I'm guessing maybe 86-87 before the rev-limeter kicks. My 4th should be 102-105 at the rev-limiter. I don't normally travel that fast so I had no idea. Glad I finally know and have my sanity back.
