Impact Sensors?

I recently damaged my passenger side impact sensor. The SRS light comes on at start then disappears till I start it again. The guy told me that until they get my car in they can't know for sure if BOTH the airbags and seat belts are compromised. Is this true?? I doubt they'd lie, but it doesn't make sense that because this sensor is broken, I no safety features whatsoever. Can anyone help?

Re: Impact Sensors?

If the airbag light goes out about 5 seconds after you start the car, and it stays off while you drive, then the computer doesn't see a problem electrically.

If it had blown any bags or belts, A) you would have gone temporarily deaf and had to change your underoos, and B) the airbag light would be ON all the time the car is running.

Just replace the damaged sensor, and follow proper procedures before doing it. Disconnect the battery for at least 5 minutes before starting work.

Re: Impact Sensors?

Ya that's what I thought. The thing is, they'll charge me for the part etc but he said they wont know anything till they get in there and god knows labour isn't cheap. We're already at $300 for this part. So if it's just the sensor, and no electrical prob. my husband can replace it himself.
