AIR RIDE?????
AIR RIDE?????
does anyone know where i can find an air ride (air bag) suspension kit for all four corners of an 01 coupe, with the compressor and in car adjustment switch??????[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif[/IMG]
LiNk!!!
Go here, they have some decent stuff, this is just the bags themselves, but there's a sidebar with a bunch of other stuff, you can custom build a full setup (except mounting brackets, and they might even have those).
Hope this helps

<< by the way.... how well do they handel? ride quality? >>
They should be just as good as a stock setup at full ride height. That is if they're tuned properly. You could even make a custom airbag over shock setup and use adjustable shocks like Koni's to get an even better ride. The best IMO would be an airbag over shock where you can adjust the ride height like a coilover and the shock stiffness like Koni's. This would allow you to tune everything quite easily. There's nothing out like that right now since the seal of the threads would be a difficult thing to accomplish. That and the fact that adjustable shocks are expensive in their own right.
<< and what is involved in installing an airbag setup? >>
Well... Basically. Buy those things I linked to. Change them for your stock shocks and springs. Then buy a compressor. Buy a tank. Buy some valves. Buy some hose. Buy some switches. Buy some wire. Hook the compressor up to the tank. Hook the tank to the valves and the valves to the airbags. Hook up everything electrical to some power. Hook up the valves to the switches. That's it. Overly simplified, but you get the idea...
I want to get air bags on my car!!! How much does it cost? Is there any mantience required to keep them up? Do they cause any long term damage to your car??

<< How much does it cost? >>
Depends on what you buy, but I think that you can get a rather good setup for $1500. A very nice setup will be about $2000. That's only for the materials though, you'de have to DIY the installation.
<< Is there any mantience required to keep them up? >>
Sort of. At first you'll need to adjust everything and make sure nothing leaks. I hear leaks are a big problem at first. You need to locate them and get rid of them. The shocks in an airbag over shock setup might wear out like regular shocks do. They'll need to be replaced sooner if you drive lowered a lot. Just like OE shocks with lowering springs. Then there's the compressor, if you overheat it it'll break. You'll need a 100% duty cycle compressor. Anything else will tend to wear out quicker.
<< Do they cause any long term damage to your car?? >>
Not if properly installed. If you don't install them properly and the air leaks out suddenly for some reason then one corner of your car could suddenly sag down and you might scrape something when driving. That's about it though. Just don't forget to drive at ride height and you should be allright.
<< hey sorry but wats an air ride(i know wat it is but hows it work) ?? >>
Basically you replace the springs with inflatable rubber bags so that you can lower and raise your car at the touch of a switch.
<< i live in nyc and we don't see those around. also if i do buy it wat do i need ... complete set wise. >>
Okay here goes: 1 compressor, 4 airbags over shocks, hose, air tank, 8 valves (2 per corner), wire, switches, air pressure guage, and pressure activated valve (for compressor if not equiped).

OH HERE IS THE DOWNLOW ON AIR BAG SETUPS.
FIRST OFF, IF YOU LOOK AT OUR PATENTED PRODUCTS FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE AND THEN LOOK AT THE AIM LINK FOUND HERE YOULL FIND THAT THEY COPY OUR PRODUCTS ALL DAY LONG, ITS AMUSING REALLY.
AIR RIDE TECHNOLOGIES IS ONE OF THE FEW TO SPECIALIZE IN APPLICATION SPECIFIC BOLT ON SUSPENSION KITS. WE ARE DEVELOPING A KIT FOR THE 92-95, 96-00, AND 01+ CIVICS AS WE SPEAK. AIR RIDE WORKS THIS WAY. AIR STRUTS WILL REPLACE THE STOCK STRUT AND IT WILL BE FULLY ADJUSTABLE. ON AVERAGE, WHEN YOU FIRST INSTALL THE KIT YOUR CAR WILL SIT ABOUT 2" LOWER THAN STOCK. FROM THAT POINT YOU CAN GO AS LOW AS YOU WANT OR UNTIL YOU HIT THE BUMPSTOPS IN THE SHOCKS. THE RIDE YOU ASK? SECOND TO NONE. ID LIKE TO SAY THAT RIDING ON ANOTHER COMPANY'S AIR RIDE IS NOTHING LIKE OUR OWN. SAME SETUP APPLIES TO THE REAR SETUP. AIR IS SUPPLIED BY A COMPRESSOR KIT MOUNTED EITHER IN THE CAR OR UNDER THE CHASSIS. NEEDLE GUAGES OR DIGITAL GUAGES ARE MOUNTED INSIDE THE CAR AND SWITCHES RESEMEBLING WINDOW SWITCHES ARE PLACED WHEREVER YOU LIKE. ILL TELL YOU THIS, YOU CAN BUY OTHER PRODUCTS THAT RESEMBLE OUR PRODUCTS, THAT ARE CHEAPER, BUT YOULL BE SORRY, YOU WONT HAVE THE LUXURY OF BOLT ON CONVEINENCE AND THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT IS NOTHIGN NEAR OURS. I CANT WAIT FOR MY KIT TO BE FINISHED. ILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED. ANY QUESTIONS CAN BE DIRECTED TO LUCAS @ AIR RIDE BY CALLING ME MON-FRI 8AM-6PM AT 812.482.2932

IN ADDITION TO WHAT GREY WAS SAYING:
COST? OUR AIR STRUTS RUN 995 FOR FRONT, 995 FOR REAR, AND 1049 FOR A NICE 4WAY COMPRESSOR KIT. YOU CAN GO WITH A LOWER-END 2 WAY KIT FOR LESS MONEY.
2-WAY CONTROL - I CAN CONTROL FRONT AND REAR ONLY. BOTH BAGS ON THE FRONT ARE LINKED AND ACT AS ONE AND THE REAR IS JUST THE SAME.
4-WAY CONTROL - YOU CAN CONTROL EACH INDIVIDUAL BAG PRESSURE TO INSURE PERFECT BALANCE.
LEAKS? OUR KITS HAVE ALMOST NO LEAKS. IF TEFLON TAPE IS USED ON EVERY FITTING LEAKS ARE NON-EXSISTENT.
LONG TERM DAMAGE?
YOURE KIDDING RIGHT? UM, NONE IF ITS INSTALLED PROPERLY.

AIR BAG FAQS
1. What is an airbag or airspring? An airbag and an airspring are the same thing spelled differently. It is a spring constructed of rubber and a high strength fabric. Numerous styles, sizes, and capacity ratings are available. The load capacity and ride height are varied by the air pressure in the airspring.
2. Are these airsprings durable and safe? Our airsprings are made to our specs by Firestone, the world’s largest airspring manufacturer. They are used on large semi-trucks, off road equipment, luxury cars, and also in industrial machinery, conveyer systems, and load stabilizers. We recently sold an airspring to replace a unit that had been in service for 17 years! [The endplate had rusted out!] Failure can happen, but it is extremely rare. We require that the vehicle have at least 2” of ground clearance when the airspring is fully deflated. This helps prevent a major problem in case of a system failure.
3. How much ride height adjustment will I have? Depending on the weight of the vehicle, suspension type, and airspring selection, usually 3” to 4” in the front and 5” to 6” in the rear. We typically set an airbag suspension to ride within 2” of the stock ride height.
4. How long does it take to raise to ride height? Again, it depends on several factors, with a RidePro system as quick as 2 sec. from lowest level to highest level.
5. What about varying loads such as people, luggage, trailer, etc.? No problem. Simply increase the air pressure until the ride height and ride quality are satisfactory. When the load is removed, release the air pressure to restore your ride height.
6. How is the ride quality? Wonderful! If you closed your eyes, you would swear that you were in a new luxury car. The ride quality is also adjustable to your taste from inside the vehicle. [Try that with a coilover or leaf spring!]
7. How difficult is the installation? This varies greatly from vehicle to vehicle. Most installations can be accomplished with a bare minimum of fabrication. [Some are even bolt-on.] Two guys with a little equipment should be able to install the system in a weekend.
8. Do you make a system for my car? We are in continual development of new systems. If we don’t make a system for your specific vehicle, we can probably assist you in adapting one of our present systems. There are very few vehicles that are not compatible with an air ride suspension.
9. What happens to the front wheel alignment? The vehicle is aligned at ride height. That is the height that you want the car to go down the highway. Take note of the air pressure at this point. Whenever the system is returned to this pressure, your ride height and alignment return also.
10. Can I drive the car “slammed” with no air in the airsprings? Yes, but the ride quality is zero. You’ll probably want to reserve this for parking and fairgrounds cruising. It won’t hurt the airsprings, but it may hurt your back! Caution: If you are going to drive the car “slammed”, pay very close attention to ground clearance and tire clearance. There is a lot of difference between laying the oil pan on the ground and dragging it on the ground!

I was told it is a bolt on kit made by chasis tech. It uses air rods. I have never heard of chasis tech. Is it a good company to go with? When do you all plan on having a kit for the 2k1?
i was just wondering 01EXtc if you could tell approximately when the kit would be finished. i already have a catalog on the way, and have had air ride before. it's great. thx for all the info.
