supercharger or turbo
Re: supercharger or turbo
the only real differences i know of are turbo lage and efficiency.
both will require nearly the same supporting mods like injectors, fuel pump, engine managment...
i don't beleive the supercharger needs an intercooler, since it's not run off of hot exhaust.
since the supercharger is powered by your belts, it burns more fuel to operate. how ever, it kicks in as soon as you put the pedal down.
since a turbo gets power by using your exhaust the spin the turbine, rather then a belt it is more efficient and uses less gas. how ever, since it uses exhaust for power you have to be creating exhaust for a while before it has enough effect to give you boost (this is known as spooling).
obviously both systems will burn more gas then stock, that's how you get the added hp. in short superchargers are quicker to boost but eat more and turbochargers are slower to boost and eat less.
i read that a turbo usually makes more power gains then a supercharger.
i also believe it's easier to find turbo parts then a supercharger.

Re: supercharger or turbo
Why post this in General? There are probably a dozen more appropriate places to make this thread. Go with a turbo unless you can get your hands on a supercharger cheap.
Re: supercharger or turbo
is the sohc vtec-e a good engine to put that type of money into cause i dont want to start putting that type of aftermarket parts into that engine and just be dissapointed in the end
Re: supercharger or turbo
To be totally honest no it's not worth it. It's one of the hardest engines to achieve reliable performance while turbod.. But, it has been done before and it will be done again. Anyone that achieves 250+ WHP on these engines deserves props.... We have seen somewhere in the 440 range with a D17.

Re: supercharger or turbo
Any engine build is worth doing. Most of us don't do it to be the fastest guys on the street. No matter what you do there will always be someone faster. You do it for the fun of it. And with everyone wanting to do swaps and dumping crazy amounts of money into their cars, a lot of the time you can get great deals on parts for the less desirable engines. Not to mention if you blow up your engine you can buy one from just about any junker for less than $300.
Re: supercharger or turbo
thats true there will always be someone faster than you im just looking to make it faster so it will be more fun to drive and from time to time race a buddy or someone else just for the fun of it. i have a blox racing cam i just havent put it in cause i dont really know to much about internal parts and i have venom injectors and fuel rail but that didnt seem to do much
Re: supercharger or turbo
Yea your more or less doing it for yourself. You are the only one that can decide if it's worth it and you can afford it. That's what modding is all about.
Re: supercharger or turbo
if you have to ask if it will be worth the money, you probabley can't afford it. we're talking thousands here. if you can't do the labor your self the exhaust system alone could easily cost over $400 (turbo air filter $50, 3in downpipe free with install (most likely they'd charge), high flow cat. $100, cat. back used $150, labor $100+tax) and that's a really good price with used parts.
Re: supercharger or turbo
i can do exhaust systems and all that good stuff its just internal parts like cams pistons and rods. stuff like that im not to sure about i just dont want to tear it apart and not be able to ever get it running right again
Re: supercharger or turbo
The question is. Are you willing to spend 3500+ dollars to build a reliable DD turbo civic?
It might be a lil' cheaper for 6th gens but it's still DAMN Expensive to do it properly.... Look for second hand parts to save yourself buttloads of money. and make sure after it's all said and done to TUNE IT by a reputable tune shop otherwise you'll just blow the damn thing up.

Re: supercharger or turbo
Best way is to find parts from someone that rounded up parts never installed them and is parting it out... brand new parts are super expensive and the idea is to save money where you can... If you can't find someone parting out new is a good way to go. Dezod sells some basic turbo stuff but you can find kits online that are fairly well priced.
Re: supercharger or turbo
NP.. Now go and spend.. spend your money... or send it to me.. PM me for address.. I'll send you some pictures of badass turbos you could have installed with it!
