Injen Race Div. CAI and Miles per Gallon
Does anybody know if an INJEN CAI will significantly increase my MPG??? I mostly drive 150 mile trips, so what do you think? Also, is there a noticeable gain in HP? If so I need to get me one. Any offers??
Most people report LOWER mpg with aftermarket "performance" intakes. Some will say that at first a driver will be into the throttle more, trying out hs newfound performance and listening to the great sound these intakes make.
However, when I lost mileage with my AEM SRI, I made sure the ECU was reset and then drove about 500 miles on cruise control mostly at 70 mph. I still got low mileage. It had dropped from 32 mpg stock to 28 with the SRI.
Then I reinstalled the stock intake, drove 500 miles, and the mileage came back to 32 mpg.
From all that I can only conclude that you lose gas mileage with the SRI and probably the CAI, because when you get more air, the ECU says it needs more gas to keep the air/fuel ratio the to spec. Thus for what ever little power you may gain, your gas mileage will drop.

Most people will say they lost a few MPG but in turn gained a couple horsepower. They'll say you lost the mpg because your on the pedeal more enjoying the clean sound. I'll say my MPG stayed steady. Even though I have a AEM Cai, I still get at least 32 mpg. I went from Orange County to Vegas & back on 1 tank, a little over 500 miles...
all intakes are a freakin hoax, they dont do $hit for performance, MAYBE 1-3hp, and in most cases, will actually decrease performance because of the higher intake temperature, ESPECIALLY w/ short ram intakes.....they are a KILLER when things get heated up under the hood...
when i had my accord, it was so bad that when things REALLY heated up under there, the car wouldnt even start!
peace

<< I get 32 MPG but I have to stop and fill up about every 350 miles. How do you stretch that to 500? >>
I normally fill up about 350 just like you. The 500 was a round-trip from southern CAli to Vegas...I'm sure you could put up similar numbers on a long trip..
Maybe. I always get better mileage coming back from Ohio then going up there. Maybe cause on the map it's downhill coming back. Seriously I got 32 on the way up and 35 on the way back last time. It's 700 miles one way.
i didn't know our tanks were 13 gals. i thought they were like somewhere near the high 11's or low 12. but still 500 miles??? that's a lot. i put a injen cai and i lost mileage. i'm probably getting around 300-350 dependin on how i drive. i've never got above 400 miles for one tank of gas.
