Serpentine Belts?

Does anyone know anything about serpentine belts? I recently went in for an oil change to a new garage and they said I need to replace 3 serpentine belts. I didn't have time so I said I'd come back later. I talked to a friend and they said that cars only have one serpentine belt. Is the garage trying to rip me off?

they may have meant accessory belts. alot of cars like civic have the timing belt, then several other belts for power steering, a/c, and alternator.

The guy at the shop and your friend are both mixed up. Your car has accessory belts which there is more than one. A car that has a Serpentine belt, use one belt to drive everything.
