Blue vs. Clear Projectors
Blue vs. Clear Projectors
Hey guys! I just picked up a 2005 Civic coupe, and after having projectors/HID's on my old Civic, I dunno if I can go back to halogens haha! So I was looking around and I found a few options, but a couple pairs of lights had blue projectors. What does this mean? Does it limit light output? And is it legal?
Also, while you're here, any suggestions on which set of projectors I should get?
Thanks!

Re: Blue vs. Clear Projectors
show us a pix.
usually if the projector looks blue, the lense has a blue coat on it....which will hinder the light output.
there are some really good ones and bad ones as far as aftermarket headlights go.
show us what u want and we'll tell u if its bad or not.

Re: Blue vs. Clear Projectors
most of those coatings are for show and do not affect the output much at all. many oem cars have purple tinted lenses as well like cadillac.

Re: Blue vs. Clear Projectors
Here's a couple I found. They're basically the same I believe, but one set has blue projectors and one has clear ones.
Thanks again!

Re: Blue vs. Clear Projectors
I have been doing some research into doing a HID retrofit onto my stock headlights, and I've heard that the halo rings around those are CRAP! They don't illuminate with the same intensity around the whole thing. I tried looking at the customer reviews on their site but they only show 5's and 4's for the appearance ratings. (don't think they are showing the bad reviews.)
there's some good info here www.customlightz.com

Also the projectors that say BLUE.. are not blue but ION, which emitts a yellow hue even if you put a white bulb in the projector... best bet would stick to your stock or clear projector..Ive had the projectors on my car and the light output SUCKED!!! even with a PnP HID kit..

Re: Blue vs. Clear Projectors
yeah just plan to swap out the projector they come with, blue lens or not. i doubt it would change the color that much, but the optics are terrible. there are many oem units like audi a4/valeo projectors that are small enough to fit with minor modding. they have h7 halogen or d2s/d1s hid versions and both are very similar.

Re: Blue vs. Clear Projectors
yeah you can open up the projector lights and unbolt the halogen projector it comes with. then install a better performing unit in its place, either halogen or hid depending on what fits in there and your preference.
