Civic Crower cam problem
I have a 98 honda civic ex, d16y8, and i put in a stage 1 crower cam, ever since i put this in i have had nothing but idle problems, i also have a adjustable cam gear, i have messed with the timing and it is right on and the idle fluctuats and nearly stalls. Any help would be great thanks!

Re: Civic Crower cam problem
you shouldnt need to tune a stage1 cam. try to reset the ecu and relearn the idle. maybe that will help but i dont think these lo hp engines like to be messed with. ive had nothing but problems.

Re: Civic Crower cam problem
sounds like your timing is off. a stage one shouldnt give you an erratic idle. Just one tooth off on the cam or crank can seriously mess up your idle. learned that from experience...

Re: Civic Crower cam problem
drive the car til engine is warm. shut off car, then disconnect battery or pull out the ECU fuse. replace, then start car. let it idle for 10 mins without pressing gas or using accessories/lights. make sure hood is closed. turn car off, then turn on and go for a drive. if it still has problems, you need to find another way to fix it.

Dont suppose you adjusted the valves? So many people dont understand the concept of valve lash and do cam swaps without doing this or doing it wrong that its not even funny. At best they would be a lil loose and you would trade performance with a noisy valvetrain. If its tight the valves dont seat, sometimes causing poor idle, low vaccuum, sluggish performance, etc. If its really tight you can get spring bind, bent valves, or broken rocker arms, blah blah.
Anyways, I'd double check that first.
