Charcoal Plate Covers Legal?

Pulled over awhile back for it and he said nothing dimming the vision of the plate could be over the plate now clear ones he said are ok? Any issues anyone has had on this? Some of my friends awhile back said they got pulled over in Oregon for them because they are illegal at night but not during the day?

Thanks,

Nick

I think i heard something about plate covers being illegal because it creates a reflection from the light of a camera (Toll and light cameras)

I was issued a ticket when I went through a road block up here in BC. He said that you cant have anything covering the license plate. I asked why and he said because then photradar wont work. I told him, ok I'll just take it off the back then and he said no, so I jumped out of the car and kicked him in the nuts. well not really but I have had one on the front and not the back for quite a while now and I seem to get away with that.

the charcoal wont do nothing against photo radar, it'll still get you. Cops dont like them for the reason that at night time its tough to identify your plate. I've had them on my car for the longest time and I haven't had any problems.

Yeah I plan on putting them right back on as soon as I move out of this town in a few weeks, and back to Oregon most people up there haven't had issues with the plate covers certain officers can be a pain like usual but Arizona is just a real pain on a lot of things had my last share of problems here, back to my home state

Thanks for the info,

Nick

Bringing this thread back from the dead...

Where did you guys buy the charcoal tinted license plate cover for your car? Trying to keep the slick black look for my car and the orange and white plate really stands out. I have looked everywhere and can't find one!! Like Pimpdakota has on his rear plate, check the member's rides section if you don't know what I mean.

I've heard that they're illegal, but then again I believe it goes state by state on ruling. I saw these plate frames that are supposed to distort or mess with radar in an audio place. I'm wondering if those actually do anything?? They don't cover the plate, but give the plates a thick boarder.

Yea actually I know for a fact they're illegal here... supermex (hector) got a ticket out in daytona for spring break because his plate has a cover over it with a very light tint to it. But its worth the risk, it really finishes off the car. I have 2 car shows in 2 more weeks, need to look my best!

So where do you buy the damn things
