about .5" of difference.. I wouldn't do it if you don't have a snug fitment of the filter onto the tube you might suck undesireable stuff into your IM

you might be able to make a fitting from a 3" to 2.5" pvc or something. just make sure there is a tight seal as already mentioned

just because its bigger doesn't mean it will suck more air in.

Re: Can You Put a Larger FIlter on a Intake Tube?

Those filters will pass more air through them than the engine can ever use. It doesnt matter if you put a bigger one on there, the one on there is big enough.

with the engine being a glorified vacuum, it will only suck in what it needs. the larger filter doesnt get more air in, just gets the necessary air in easier

Re: Can You Put a Larger FIlter on a Intake Tube?

Okay, the point is that the filter will do nothing but dangel on your intake pipe no matter how tight you set it- you cant force the filter to fit a pipe half an inch smaller- at best you'd fold the inlet on the filer so be able to get it on the pipe, but thats way past half assed. You probably couldnt fit a bigger filter in the bay with out it rubbing on the battery and a few other things anyways.
