HVLP Spray gun experience? Please help...

I'm using House of Kolor KD2000 Direct to metal primer. It calls for a 2.0 nozzle, so I bought a new HVLP 2.0 HVLP gun. (I already had a 1.4 and a 1.0) I still can't get the primer to come out correctly. I think it's because of the gun. I put some water in the gun to see how it was coming out, and when I just barely pull the trigger down, air bubbles up and out the gravity feed cup! What's up with that?! Does anyone know why my gun would bubble air up though the cup? Does that mean that the gun just sucks?

first, you just ruined your gun by putting water in it. automotive paints are oil based and you clean it with laquer thinner. not only are the internals going to rust and corrode, but if one drop of water gets in your paint, you just ruined a paint job. as for the gun, did you buy a cheap gun? is the nozzle on right? does it bubble with the dtm in the cup?

Honestly, the library has books on this, if the internet doesnt have any info up. I've looked through them before because I was looking into what it would take to do my own painting. I think there was another thread on HVLP gun, but oh well- your question seems more specific. Hopfully u didnt ruin your gun, thoes things arent cheap.

Sounds like the air cap is clogged and is forcing air back through the fluid tip

Well, It's a cheap gun, so I think i'll just get a new/good one...
I wish I could see what's going on inside of the gun, so then I could fix it.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

Yes, I used laquer thinner to clean the gun. I just used water to test the air pressure action.

sounds like the nozzle is clogged. you can get rid of any and all water with acetone. it will dry it up.

Ok, So I just now dis-assembled the entire gun (minus the lower air inlet part) and based on the design, the first thing that came to mind was that there was an air leak somewhere along the nozzle and getting into the fluid path. So I really tightened it down when i put it back together. Well, I guess third times the charm, I hope it works this time. (Whenever I get a chance to spray again. Thanks everyone for the help!
