a key question...

Hey guys, still new to the forum but I'm loving the fact how big this site is, and the amount of knowledge everyone brings to the table. I didn't know what section to post this in, so I posted here. I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX Sedan 7th Gen, D17A1 motor. There's a sticker on the window that says theft imbolizer, but my grandpa had this car before, so there's no security system on it, or anything. I want some more keys, and I had Ace Hardware try and make some keys, and they made them, but didn't fit the ignition or even start the car. So my question is, do I need to buy keys from the Dealership, if so, does anyone know what a ballpark figure is?

Or you can just go to any locksmith and he'll do it cheaper.

Oh yeah, post in the correct forums. This is a Tech issue.

A normal copied key can do everything except start the car.
The car will turn over but won't start.

You need to go to the dealership and get a key with the chip programmed.

yes, like everyone else said, you must go to the dealership to get ur key copied. It's kinda pricey, but as long as u dont lose keys often, it's a nice security feature.

unless you have a psycho exboyfriend who works at honda and copies your key while ur car is in the shop, and then uses it to randomly take ur car...
