Dumb question re: SRI

I got a generic ebay special intake, and it doesn't have a plug for the MAF.

Is it really necessary to plug it in? Could I just tape over the end?

Just curious how much it messes with the computer in doing so.

I believe you can use the stock one from your car, you will have to modify it a bit though.
