I've drivin my step dads 01 VW passat v6 with a "triptronic" transmission.
I think what you are talking about is similar. I tried to to do a 1/4 mile just
for kicks but the damn car has a delay from the time you shift to the time
the car shifts. It's really confusing if your used to a 5 speed. I really don't
think it would be worth it because the computer will automaticly upshift
and downshift for you if the rmp's become to high. I've raced an 02 passat
4 banger with triptronic transmission in my civic and i kicked his *** so bad
i felt sorry for the old guy because he just spent like 27k on his pretty new
car and my little econo-box out ran him.

I have this on my Eclipse GT. Not really worth it. It is nice for engine braking, and nice for starting in 2nd during the winter if your car has massive torque (Not the case for most Civic's anyway). You get just as good 1/4 times by flooring it in standard automatic. There is a little shift lag which can be annoying too.

Put your money towards a standard level 10 rebuild kit with a replacement TC if you want bigger gains from an auto tranny.
