kumho I'zen snows
The car seems to handle very well with just the front 2 tires swapped. Everyone keeps "recommending" you do all 4 tires.... But I think in a FWD car that's just some bull$hit they say to sell more tires..... Plus everyone is scared after the firestone debacle.
In a FWD car the front wheels do 100% of the powering - 100% of the steering - and 75% of the braking. The rears are just along for the ride and keep the rear end from sliding out.... and the rolling..errr...firestones do a good enough job back there - I don't know about you guys but i can't justify spending the extra dough.
Wasn't there a thread not to long ago about a guy from Canada who tore up his Civic cause he only replaced his front tires? If i find it again, I'll give you a link here. Bottom line, yes, it may be more expensive to replace all 4 tires, but, it's worth it.
Here's the link I was speaking of : Stanly's Civic in Peices.

mattskav: You're 100% correct about what you said, but I guess turning also matters. During a turn the tires all have to grip the same, or else either your front or rear will slide out from under you. Then the skidding is what can rip the tires apart, especially on dry pavement. Whoops, huh?

Yeah, i mean the things work great in the dry and wet, I think I'll wait till it snows and go drive it in a parking lot to see how much you have to mess up before the car goes out of controll. Then decide if I need to pony up the extra $150.
I read that other article and it seems like that person was driving far too fast for the circumstances. However i do see how the car could lose control in that manner if it is equipted with mis-mached tires. While stories like that are scary, I think i really want to give it a shot with just 2 tires to see if it's not all hype.

yeah, happend to me last week, hit the curb, but no stratch or anything, just very light hit, i changed the front tire only to some no brand name call nordic icetrac, its much much better than stock firestones, on dry/wet/snow road, but i didnt change the rear one, and the tire was too good so i try some crazy turns while snow storm, rear tire slip, fish tail, did a 180 and hit the curb, good that there no strach, not even tire marks
