You can try to take some of the stuff on the inside of the muffler out. Then you will get noise. Noise is annoying, you don't want it, trust me.

with a civic you wont get a deep sound like you do with mustangs or camaros.

the only sound you will get is a loud weedwacker sound. keep it quiet IMO

CivicHX01 is an unknown quantity at this point
maybe they just chopped off your stock muffler and welded the N1-wanabe muffler on... so i'm guessing they did the cheapest job possible and used your stock piping + stock resonator...

and i'm guessing you have an dx/lx/hx...

if my assumptions are correct... then do the following..

to get it louder... change the stock piping to something bigger... 2 1/4 inch should suffice.. anything bigger is useless unless you plan on turboing the car

if you want it really louder, then also consider changing out the stock header to an aftermarket one...

EDIT:
ok i guess i read it wrong you wrote N1 style CATBACK...

so probably the catback has a resonator built into the piping... if so then get that taken out and replace it with straight-through piping... and if thats not enough loudness for u... then go ahead and get a header.

ok... so its not a catback... it was just a muffler...

if you want that extra noise, get that stock resonator out...

Is the exhaust new? I've never owned a new exhaust for our cars before, but doesn't the tone change after break-in?

I got a new Ractive muffler and just welded the thing on. No noise came out. So i changed the piping and now........once the Vtec kicks in it sounds like the ultimate weedwacker. But i like the setting off car alarms..Only bad thing gettin pulled over by cops ( i just show my PBA cards and they let me go)
