Well, after whining and complaining about spending $45 on a short shifter adaptor, i decided to build my own. With a band saw, drill press, and a sheet of aluminum, i took about an hour out of my day and built an adaptor.
It was quite a bit easier than i thought. I made it so it slipped over the stock shifter cable mount, but held right against the shifter itself as not to move. Then i cut out a piece to bolt to the adaptor to pinch the stock bracket between the two, thus keeping the shifter from ever moving. I used an 8mm bolt and 2 nuts (run together so they wont come lose) to hold the shift cable. And i put the cable forward enough so that the shifter sits a little farther back than stock, so i dont have to lean forward to put it into 1st, 3rd, and 5th.
But the adaptor worked perfect. It shortened the throw noticably, and the shifter feels precise and smooth. Just like it was brand new.
If i feel like taking the console apart again, i may take some pictures and maybe do some sort of DIY on it for you do it yourselfers out there. Basically, this took me about 1 hour and about $1.50 in materials. Screw those huge companies!

ill make up a little template and what not for you guys to print out and trace on some aluminum. If you have a drill and some way of cutting aluminum sheets (<1/8" thick) then you can make this.
It made a difference. Not like "oh my god, i dont even have to move it to shift", but the throw is shorter and feels stiffer.
I will make the template and DIY stuff this week. Im outta work for a bit while qualifying for this job, so i will have some time on my hands.
