Removing Cat can make the manufacture and/or govermnent sue u??
I heard when i was at my shop, a co-worker of mine told me if u remove the cat converter the goverment and/or manufacture can sue u for violating emmissions laws?? Is this true cause this can **** up my exhaust plans!!
also if u remove the cat on let's say a Civic LX and put a Kamakazie header in u can have reduced performance and early engine wear..even if u use a o2 simulator.. has any1 ever encounter loss of performance when doing this mod??
also when u remove the cat has any1 experince a very stink smell coming out of the exhaust??

Well yes it is illegal to remove it. The catalytic converter uses catalysed air reactions to noticably reduce the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases.
no they cannot sue you for taking out a piece of YOUR car. the worse that can happen are fines/fix-it tickets and prob someone will get on your case if their real trippy about it.
reduced performance? iuno what that means but bolts on barely give you any gains but IF they did, it'll supposely increase your high end power but rob your low end.
early engine wear? dont see how that could happen with pipes that come OUT of the engine..
o2 simulator has nothing to do with performance (that i know of). it just tricks your car thinking theirs a legit cat on the car when theirs not.
when you remove the cat, you'll smell exhaust fumes but it doesnt stink like **** or cat crap. just strong exhaust fumes. but when driving, you wont smell it really.

This comes from an company who makes racing cars:
http://www.kempower.be/indexd.htm :
"Older cars can give a good power gain if we take the cat away, but we always have to let the lambda sensor connected to allow the ECU to work well. It is possible that the power gain is 7 à 10 hp on such an old car
Newer cars are designed to work with a cat. The cat is designed as a part of the exhaust system. The gain by take this cat away is maybe only 2 hp with a lot of torque loss because the backpressure is too low. So don't !!.
If you wants to improve the gain the best is to replace the original ceramic cat by a metallic race cat. The only inconvenient is the price."

Removing modifying the cat will cause your car to smell becuase of the new increased amount of carbons that are being sent out of the exhaust system. If caught w/o a cat or a modified cat w/ under 50k miles (esp in CA) you will be subject to a large fine, be sent to the state referee and something else that I cant remember. Here in CA, they are also sending out the "smogdogs" which shoot sensors across a street and read your emissions levels. Friend with a Bullitt got caught and put his back on. It really sux, I drove my WRX w/o all 3 of its cats for a while but its just kinda not worth it here in CA right now. Dont know about where you live. Not trying to scare you or anything, cuz I ditched my cats quick as possible for HP, but damn the man is bringin us down.
The govt or the police will give you a 7 day or a 72 hour fix it ticket and you have to produce the correction in that given time frame....you wont get sued....
I dont have a cat but I'm military and my car is registered in Pa and I live in La so I am emissions exempt.
YEAH

last time I got pull over from a cop, and then he went to my exhaust and told me to press the gas, actually, he was trying to smell my exhaust and see if I had took out the cat away.
Therefore, it's your decision what u want to do:
no cat = few hp increase + ticket
with cat = no hp increase + no ticket

Don't remove the cat. Your not going to gain anything and its horrible for the environment. I for one, don't want to smell the **** coming out of your car.

Removal of a catalytic converter from a car so equipped from the factory is a $2500 federal fine, according to the local exhaust shop here. I'll try to get the exact federal law on it if I get time.
