Ceramic Or Stainless Steel????
Ceramic Or Stainless Steel????
My friend has stainless steel DC sports headers in his acura, and he ordered ceramic. He thinks he got some good *** deal but i heard ceramic was better for heat insulation in comparison to the ss. Any knowledge and wisdom on this issue would be much apreciated. thanks

Ceramic might crack over time, but i perfer Ceramic over SS.
Better heat insulation.
You can always use heat wrap but it will void warranty.
Ceramic headers are cheaper than stainless.

Ceramic will insulate better then stainless steel, true, but you are still better off thermal wrapping the header. A HP or Kamikazi header will yield better horsepower results then DC sports. The piping on the DC sports header for the EX has little to no advantage over stock due to its small diameter.

gearbox- it gets fiberglass **** all over your hands.
the ceramic is cheaper because all it is, is a coated mild steel. I would choose a SS over the "ceramic" header for longevity. Simply wrap the pipes with a thermal wrap or put a heat sheild on top of it.

Oh come on. The header is still metal, and ceramic refers to a coating. If the header was entirely ceramic, you could make one out of clay lol!
Any way to mod the stock heat shield to put on an aftermarket header?

So i guess we have come to the conclusion that ceramic is better for heat insulation, therefore inducing better performace results, however it is less durable than stainless steel, so either way you will have your pros and cons. I have another question about headers, though. What exactly would just an independant header do for performace? The piping is slightly wider so i would guess more air flow, but would it really only make a difference if you have an aftermarket performance exhaust system? It seems to me that each would be dependant on each other in order to work efficiently.

It would really only matter if your cylinder head exhaust ports were widened. Otherwise, the new header won't do anything. It might even make things worse since exhaust gas flows faster through the smaller stock pipes.

however, there is a certain velocity that creates excessive drag inside of smaller pipes so you have to properly size the runners in order to have a "happy medium" if you will.
