it'll work. but i'm not sure what you mean by benefit..

it might be a bit expensive to get it setup too.

basically its like running a test pipe.. or just header only... it'll be noisy as heck, and polluting as heck.

i suppose if you're running a high boost turbo and u have a rather restrictive cat-back, or you prefer to run straight pipe... this will work well on the track so you can get more outta your boost without spending the time to remove the cat-back

in either case.. generally this isn't something any of us need... even if you're turbo, there's plenty of decent flowing exhaust.

My friend has that on his firebird.... its good for about 0.2 in a 1/4, but he's also got the power to back it up. If you've got a motor thats so strong that even a basically open exhaust is hurting it, then it helps. D17s don't fit this category.
All that thing is really for is to allow "race cars", mostly of the straight line variety, street legal.

SMX is on a distinguished road
Most tracks will require our cars to run through mufflers. Saw a kid get booted from Trophy class this weekend when they caught his Chevelle collectors unbolted from his exhaust. A good exhaust system shouldn't affect your 1/4 mile times too much unless you're making big power.

bobbyd is an unknown quantity at this point
Those have been around for ever. Would they do anything on a lightly modified Civic? Yes, they would hurt your low end. Most of the people who would use something like that would be the modified V8 crowd.
