bras

I need some opinions... I'm getting the front (bumber, hood..) re-touched and painted after a friggin car kicked up rocks at my face while driving the canyons.. I'm pissed enough as it is that I have to pay out-of-pocket.. but I figure that I'd want to protect this investment... I was thinking of a bra (half or full???) I heard that there are issues of mold even though they say they are mildew resistant??

RedDragon333 will become famous soon enough
after a while ofd it sitting there it doesnt have the same exposure to the UV rays that the rest of your paint does and will do more harm that good.

i only put on my bra when i drive from home to school which is 350 miles, helps keep the bugs and rock chips down
other than that, i take it off

i also heard that the bra messes up the paint due to unequal uv rays hitting the paint

Plus ther's been instances of rocks getting trapped underneath the bra and at high speeds they move around and do mo0re damage then good. I've though of getting a half bra, but I just don't like the way it looks.

Get a bottle of touch-up paint and you'll be fine

look into those clear plastic sheets that can be molded to the car, and it doesn't even look like anything is there. It protects the paint. They make it for every cars stock bumper and they also make them for some after market bumpers.

3M Invisiguard is what the clear stuff is called. Goes on like window tint. The only problem is if anything scuffs it, you cant buff out the scuffs. So your choice is stone marks and bugs, or scuff marks (they're bound to happen).

that's true...although what I'm doing (once repainted) is using a bra for trips. I find that my front end takes the biggest beating on road trips so I'll be using one for that and then removing it once I arrive.

DAMMIT...i came into this thread thinking that chicks wearing talking about there bras...ahhahah ohh well...but yeah it does fade the paint due to the UV rays..ive seen it personally....just go without a bra because you can always buff it out......Mold does grow under it...say for instence(sp) it rains and a bunch of leaves and dirt get under it just stains the hell outta the paint....

I know this does not help, but what would be nice is if car manufacturers made the front and rear bumpers out of Lexan like they do RC car bodies. Then you would never have to worry about chipped paint.

alienmeatsack has a spectacular aura aboutalienmeatsack has a spectacular aura about
I have had bras on 2 of my vehicles and here is what I noticed on both:

1) the edges/seems rub the paint, leaving a light scuffed area over time.
2) Stuff gets under those same edges and sometimes scratches heavily, esp when highway driving where the wind is causing most movement
3) The sun affecting the paint causes your covered areas to no longer be the same shade of paint (my jeep was bad about this)

I foudn that when I washed the vehicle it was easier to remove the bra, wash/wax, clean the bra and let dry and then put it back on the car. It did help keep damage down on the front but ultimately caused its own damage.
