exhaust rust
my exhaust on the muffler is starting to show some rust sports from winter driving. is there any way to get rid of those and still keep the chrome finish other than buying a new muffler?

sand it down on the spots were it is rusted and put a protector.
or just dont drive in those kind of conditions!
there might be a warranty if you went with a brand name exhaust.

no the finish will probably be gone, but it wont look rusty.<exhausts are usually dirty neways
go to pepboys they will have all the stuff you need for the fix.
make sure you get something to stop rust or it will just get worse.

well, im happy now. i just got all the rust off and retained the shiny chrome finish. they were small rust specs on the muffler and i dont think it was the actual muffler that was rusted. i used some orange hand sanitizer and a small scrub brush to get all the rust off and it worked perfect. took me 2 min and it was gone.

what kind of protector? i think it was rust by the hanger weld that may have leaked on the rest of the muffler possibly.

Use an S.O.S. pad or some steel wool, not sand paper.
Then use a metal polish after that.
