another newbie tach question
another newbie tach question
Hey all-
Brand new to the forum and the Civic world here (just sold the Jeep for a 2004 Civic coupe VP).
I used the search function, but I still have a few questions. As you know, the VP needs a tach. I want something that either mounts in a pod on the windshield pillar or behind the steering wheel in front of the existing cluster. Problem is, I don't want something too small (want to be able to read it with ease), but I would rather not have a huge intrusive tach either. I looked at the Autometer web site, but they don't have a 2004 catalog out yet. I saw they have single gauge pods for the pillar, but I don't know what sizes will be available for the 2004. Can you give me some advice?

sunpro tach...available at your local pepboys for like $40
welcome to the site.

I like that location, Bellz. The only thing I am concerned about is the size. Maybe I'm going blind in my old age (30), but I would like something a little larger just for ease of visibility. If I put something larger on that right side, I will occlude part of the speedo and the trip odo reset button. If I put it on the left, I will occlude part of the gas/temp gauge. What size is that tach? I guess I will need to go look at sizes in person to get a better feel. I just remeber having a small aftermarket tach (about that size) in a Chevy truck and wishing it were larger.

Alright, I'm now hijacking my own thread to see if I can post pics. Here's one of the interior--see what I mean about occluding the fuel/temp gauges?

And the exterior, with 17's (the only mod thus far)

and the Jeep I just sold

Check this out.
That size tach seems pretty good size but with your gauge cluster. It will either block fuel/temp gauges or speedometer. I am pretty sure all 04 guage cluster wireharness same for any models. I cant comfirm that. Anyways. You can possibly just do gauge cluster swap. Or just get Autometer tach and put it on the left side pillar.
This is what futurersxswap did. He has 02 dx. Does not come with tach.(same as 04 vp models).

'nuther pic. I hate big, ugly tachs that are bolted to the dash/pillar/column. It's silly to get something that big unless you're racing or autocrossing. That's why I got the small one and put it there. It doesn't block anything. It's big enough to see at a glance, and small enough to stay put with velcro. And the best part is that it's totally removable, unlike bolting down a monster tach and leaving a big hole.
BTW, this is a 2-5/8" gauge.
