This is a thread to show people some Fiberglass DIY's. I know that when I became interested, I couldn't find hardly anything at first. There's one DIY linked somewhere on this site, and that was OK, but there were some important things that it left out, so I went searching. I found many sites will a lot of basics and more, but the two links below are the two which I feel are all that are neccessary. They detail how to generally work with fiberglass, and specifically making subwoofer inclosured to custom fit your car and kick-panel enclosures.
Here's the one on this site, in case anyone can't click the DIY button:

THis is the homesite for a bunch of DIY's, most of which are noob-fiberglass related:
http://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/main/
I also want to ask one question: I plan on making an enclosure on each side of the trunk (in the depression on the left and right close to the trunk lid). One for each subwoofer. My color scheme is black/red, so i am going to paint them red, but i want to add some sort of black detailing. A fried suggested black flames on a red enclosure, but I have no artistic ability, so I'm looking for something simpler but accomplishes the same thing. THat's all; sorry for going on and on saying nothing :P

oh, i forgot the main reason for reading the second one in addition to the one on this site! There are a few parts of the fabrication which are done differently by the two DIY's. I think some in this site's are better, and some in the other's are better, so that's why you should read both.
EDIT:
I also want to ask one question about fiberglassing; when laying the glass down, how much, if at all, should the strips overlap? should i criss-cross them? Should I lay them side-by-side, all organized? THanx.

i think that is so bad *** man!!! i do a lil of fiberglassing and my next mod is molding my screen onto the dash i just dont know where to start!!! can anyone help on this project?
First of all........fiberglassing is not easy. I do fiberglass and Carbon Fiber work. Reading about it and doing it are 2 totally different things. Seems easy when you read about it.
I suggest going to a salvage yard and buying some old parts(they are really cheap) and practice on them before you do anything to your car. If you mess up your existing OEM part and give up, they are expensive to replace. Especially a dash. Start with something small. My first piece was an old door panel. I Made a speaker pod and fiberglassed it. IT WAS A MESS!!! But it was a learning experience, and there was really nothing lost. It just takes practice. And alot of money on materials will be wasted as you learn, so take your time.

no one answered one of my big questions; how do I lay the fiberglass? Within one layer, should I criss cross them, or lay them side by side, or random, or what?
