Ive heard a bunch of stories about the Immobilizer system, but does anyone really know EXACTLY what it is? One of my friends with an Acura said that it dropped the engine on the ground if you tried to hot wire the car. I was like, that's bullshit, but what does it do? Just disable the electrical system or something? Thanks
LOL!!!! drops the engine!?? ROFL
it's just a chip that checks for a signal from you key, if it's not there, it disables the fuel injector so the engine won't start. until it gets that signal, the fuel injectors stay disabled.
edit: typos

You won't be able to start the car if the ignition was tampered with I think. My friend had his 7thgen broken into the other day and they tried drilling out the steering column key thing and they couldn't hotwire the car because the computer just shut off so when he found his car the next day he couldn't even start the dam thing with his own key so he had to get it towed to the dealership so that they could reset things so that he could use his key to start it.

well...what they do to steal 2001 acura integra type R's is just plug in a GS ecu to remove the immobilzer. but its completely pointless to have the immobilzer if your car is stick shift...you can just wire up the ignition and kick start it.

the engine cannot be started unless a key is used that has the matching code programmed inside the key. i believe the code is based off of your VIN number so everyone's code is unique, i think its programmed into the key and the ECU.

its actually a certain frequency thats transmitted from the key once it becomes part of the circuit. there is a key sense wire in the harnesses on the key cylinder and that triggers the receiver on. thats why an immobilizer bypass just has an antenna stuck to the key cylinder, it simply retransmits the code.

but the engine wont have any fuel. you can't pushstart. not really at least.
The immobilizer dissables the Fuel pump. once, when i had my civic. i had a loose live power wire in the trunk (duhh, who's stupid). and it was grounding and shorting out my car, causing it to stall. now because i was moving, it tried to restart. but since i had not freshly inserted the key, the car just bogged. and the revs dropped the gas pedal did nothing, and i was quite freaked at the time (so i disconnected that powerwire).
but yea. you can't pushstart it. you have to get power to the fuelpump.

i hate to say it, lol, but its been done. someone at my shop was able to pull a fuse, put the car in first and with a few people pushing it, he got the engine running.

^ yea, but you still need a copy of the key for that bypass to work. otherwise you wont have the code, and it has to be hardwired to the car. thats just used for remote start systems, same as DEI 555I which i have in my car.
