I have a viper 600 and it's still going strong after almost 2 years. Good things to look for are a backup battery. Don't get a proximity sensor, since it gets annoying fast.

I have a crimestopper, got it for cheap. It works, but I want a clifford. Only problem is that clifford are price protected - which means that you need to buy it from a dealer. I don't want installation since I know how to do it already.....damn...
even if you get a backup backup battery they still can cut your wires to your siren so it makes no noise at all... maybe you could get a second siren and hide it somewhere or someplace hard to access?? cuz my friends car got broken into the other day and he has a second battery but they cut his siren wires to shut the thing up... =/
I had UNGO. Have had for 3 years on wife's car. The installer I
had to install said is better than VIPER and is about 150 cheaper.
Check around on the used car lots, most of them have a guy or mobile service that will do radio/alarm work. These guys do this for a living and very low overhead.

Alarms won't do much. Even the siren isn't enough to deter thieves these days. Someone hit my car, siren went off, and the guy drove away. I wish I had gotten a system with a pager. Then you can run out and catch them.
i have the viper responder the security and remote start one, i love it very much.
you should lood into it directed.com
i read a while back, some guy had a seat cover and before he leave his car he put a sheet of thumb tabs between the seat cover and the seat. who was it!! be a man to admit it. it was funny lol

check into the clifford, i'd think are the best out there even they are also made as the same company as viper are (DEI) what make it so special that is the wirelesss imbolizer (can't spell)

i have a total of 6 sirens on my car. two of them are inside the car itself and they emit an ear-piercingly loud shriek, you cant stand being inside the car for more than a few seconds before your ears start bleeding..lol. im an installer at circuit city and i just like to get creative. a good installer wont grab power for your alarm under the hood, they will try to grab it inside the car. I dont have a prox installed but i did get a clifford tilt sensor, the moment someone jacks/tows my car, the alarm goes off. there are a number of things you can do.
