Question making paint last?

I painted all my interior trim pieces red to match my exterior (even did the whole center console, the one that goes around the shift boot and e-brake), and it looks real nice. The only problem is, it's not very durable. I'm very careful, but if I accidentally scratch something against it (not even hard), it makes a big scratch. I'm just looking for a way to make the paint harder/more durable. It has a clearcoat on it, and that helps, but there has to be something else I can do. And no, I can't bake it to harden the paint....the paint is on plastic! Thanks.

There are plastic paints that DYE the plastic. Since dye soaks into the plastic itself, it won't scratch off. Other than clearcoat, not much will help normal paint. It also takes time for the paint to fully cure.

on the paint issue....... you used primer right???? i messed up quite a few times when i painted the piece around the radio, and just kept sanding and primering and sanding and painting and then i finally got it the way i wanted, so i clearcoated it.. it is really smooth, (the finish) and i havent got any scratches on it yet, and i have alot of girls in my car, trying to dj my ****(their long fingernails) so if you keep coating it, it might help..... only a suggestion though, b/c i ended up doing it this way b/c when i paint, i tend to put heavy coats on it and mess it up.

i did the same with my radio trim...its reeeeal smooth. I scrubbed it with MEK too to get rid of those little sparkly things. Anyway, I did prime it, and I like the way it looks, I was just wondering if there was a better way to protect it. I think I'll stick with this unless something gets scratched. They're such a pain to take off and re-install, especially the door handle surrounds...

Pick whatever color you need...

Prep, prime, paint. Follow the instructions and it'll adhere well.
