Rubber under the bumper

What is the rubber piece under the front bumper of my sedan? What does it do? Is it important? I lost mine a long time ago while I was learning to park properly... (I noticed it coming off a long time ago and I fixed it but now it's gone). I also got a bunch of scratches under the hood. Is it for aero dynamic purposes or is just to protect the bumper from scratches? Should I replace it?

It's just like a rock guard or something. No real purpose. I'll be taking mine off once I get my lip kit.

Do you happen to know how much they cost? I wanna replace it, unless the price isn't worth it.

I think it's around $20 from the dealer.

I thought it was just to try and help prevent scratching when you bottom out on a curb or driveway or something like that. It's really not that important.

I would agree that it should be no more than $20-25 at a dealer.

I'll buy it if it's just $20 when I get an oil change. I'll try not to lose it this time. lol... If it's more than $20 forget it... I'm a college kid, not a millionaire. I heard they might even jack up college tuition, again....

keep this in mind if you plan on doing it that way... 1) it might be a special order item... if so, you'd have to wait a couple weeks for it to come in. 2) dealerships tend to be bitches about install/labor costs, as do most other places.
if you search google or even this site, you might find a DIY to take it off/put it on... hell, someone might even help you out if you ask (post a thread or sumptin)... it shouldn't be too hard to install, figuring its a rubber lip. its not like you're gonna brake it...

there's my 2¢...

Installing the strip is easy. Just loosen the bolts and slide it back in. I don't need mine, so PM me if you want it.
