Okay, basically the clutch is what engages and disengages your transmission. IF you have heavily modified your car, then you're going to want to get a more heavy duty clutch as your stock one will eventually go out. I'm not sure what you mean by shortening the distance, but the clutch doesn't change any differences. It usually changes where and when your clutch will "grab" or engage your transmission or drivetrain. Basically you can get a clutch from ACT. or there are other brands, but ACT is the best that I know of. You can get a variety of clutches, from three puck to eight puck I think. The higher the stiffer your clutch will be. I recommend getting a three unless you're into some serious heave drag racing. I hope that answered your questions about clutches. As far as shortening your distance, I suggest getting a short shift adapter or short shifter. Do a search, and you can learn a little more about them.

If you don't know anything about clutches, then why do you want one??? Do a google search for clutches to see what they do. Basically when you depress the clutch it seperates the engine from the transmission so that you can shift to the next gear without ruining the transmission. There are clutchs that can take more abuse for turboed or nitrous applications or racing. There are also lightened flywheels that go along with the clutch.
ACT, Clutchmasters, Centerforce, and excedy make good clutches.

A short shifter has nothing to do with the clutch. A short shifter will change the shift point inside the car by changing the distance between the shift cable and the shift pole. It is for faster, shorter throws so that youc an shift at a better pace when racing rather than the long mushy throws the stock shifter has.

Again, please search.

Okay, I went back and read your first thread to try to figure out what you want. All you are trying to do is get the clutch pedal on your Civic to engage about 2"-3" after you push it in instead of having to push it down almost to the floor right?

Forget about spending $300 to $500 on a clutch. Our Civics have self-adjusting hydraulic clutches, but as someone already said in the other thread, there might be a way to adjust the play in the pedal (I have an auto - I can't look).

It costs you ZERO to go ask the Honda dealer if they can "adjust the clutch pedal so it will engage sooner." That is Step #1 so let us know what they say.

Getting an aftermarket clutch will do nothing to shorten your distance, like Big Daddy Honda said. It will just make the clutch pedal stiffer.

If you want less distance, you'd have to mess with the pedal itself, though I have no clue what would need to be done. It won't be easy, and it won't be worth it.

Compared to other manual cars I've driven, our distance is pretty short. It's not that long, its pretty average.
