FIRST GEAR PROBLEM
I posted this on another message but neways.
FIRST GEAR PROBLEM.
1: clutch + break
2: shift to first
3: release a bit of the clutch up to the friction point
4: release break
PROBLEM:
1st try: gas + release clutch.. revs up to 3000.. doesn't move.. continues releasing clutch.. stalls
2nd try: gas + release clutch.. slower.. revs up to 3000.. doesn't move.. suddenly.. jolts and flies...
I"m prettie pissed off cuz I learned on a really old car before and it was fine with 1 stall.
I was driving perfectly on a celica sooo
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?????
this is a new car and still in the break-in period sooo i dont wanna try agian and again.

Hello,
Anyone know how I would solve this problem without killing the car?
I know I can rev up to 2000 still and slowly release the clutch BUT since the car is still in it's break-in period.... don't wanna kill the car..
clutch up + gas down simutaneously.. the rev flies up to 4000 before I am even 3/4 up from the clutch!!!
arrr..
any helP?
thanks

rev it around 2 rpms and hold it steady....then release the clutch slowly....as soon as you feel the car start to move hold the clutch at that spot for a few seconds and add more gas.....then you can let go of the clutch completely.....thats what i did anyway during the break-in period

Honesly the best way to drive is using what I call the inching technique...Ive taught many of my friends how to drive stick this way. Okay when yer at a stop...slowly release yer foot of the clutch...and I mean slowly...you'll find a point where u dont even have to push the gas, and the car will inch forward by itself, thats when u lightly remember lightly TOUCH the gas and it will engage perfect. If u rev to 2 then go everytime yer gonna wear yer clutch and thats bad news....
Normally i tell my friends that are learning stick to just sit back.. and not think about it so much. learn to feel the point of your clutch where it releases..
But i like the "inching" technique Wesson was talking about.. you don't even have to give it gas it will go on it's own.. and you can really learn how sensitive the clutch is that way.. be really SLOW when bringing it up!

i dunno about you guys..
but i find my civic soo much easier to drive than older standard cars that i've driven (toyota / crx / and 2 jettas)...
that inching technique sounds good...
it helps you find out the sensitivity of the car...
and definately dont think about it too much... that gets distracting and will give you headaches....

INCHING TECHNIQUE
This is how i'm practising right now.
1. release clutch about 1 1/2 inches.
2. rev up to 1500 to 2000
3. slowly release the clutch.
4. add a little bit of gas..
bad way but it works. (kinda, still suck)
ok, the inching techique or uphill thing.
the problem with my civic
< ----- x -- >
x is the piont when the car starts moving forward.. the problem is you have to get right on the SPOT of x
or else it will either stall or fall back.
this is totally different. with old old cars, you can get it within < ---- xxx -->
as long as you'r within anywhere on those x. you won't fall back.
is something wrong with the car?
