Unhappy Recommendation on Installing Subs- 2011 Civic LX Coupe

Hi Guys,

I just bought this car yesterday. Everything is awesome except, I feel the necessity for a Sub- Woofer system. I did not buy it from Honda since I found better deals online and labor charges were crazy. I had a few questions.

1. Are there compatibility issues while installing a third party system?
2. I have never done it before. But I feel like I can do it myself. How difficult is the process? Do I need pro-help?
3. Any recommendations regarding this issue?

Thanks in Advance. Keith.

Just curious, but where did you find a 2011 Civic aside from a dealership in 2010?

You'll need a new head unit, because the factory one is not capable of powering subs; that's the only compatibility issue. It's very simple to do yourself, anyone with some basic mechanical skills can install subs.

He did not buy the SUB from Honda
Just to clear it up

Anyways, Installing a sub is pretty straight forward, however it might be slightly difficult with stock head unit.

Installing a sub consists of
Amp wiring kit
Amplifier
Subwoofer
Subwoofer enclosure
Speaker wire

If you're not comfortable taking apart panels and drilling holes in your new car, I would take it to a professional audio shop and have them install the amp for like $50

My best suggestion is buying an output converter. I bought a 2011 civic in December and the head unit/factory stereo does not allow for audio L/R amp wires. The only draw back is, you lose a set of your speakers either the front or back depending on what you decide. The front or back speakers hook to the converter which then sends the output to the amp.

or you could keep the front or rear speakers an still use the converter. it's called a "line out converter" it takes regular speaker wire and converts it to an rca wire. scosche makes one that is adjustable for around 20 bucks. instead of unplugging your wires to your rear speakers to hook up the converter, just take male spayde terminals and bend them a little and stick them inside of the speaker connector from the same end the wires go into the connector i.e. up from the bottom. you'll keep your speakers, your factory h/u and you'll add your subs.
