2010 audio upgrade

Hey all,

I am going to be doing an audio upgrade to a 2010 civic sport. It currently has the bose system.

I will be leaving the deck for now if possible and just replacing the speakers to start. Question is can the speakers just be replaced? Is there no tricky wiring with the stock speakers or is it a standard install. Also does the deck have a line out for an external amp does anyone know?

If I was to replace the deck is it a hard replace?

What is the speaker size for the stock location?

Thanks for the replies.

Re: 2010 audio upgrade

its pretty standard, but dont get speakers with too high of an RMS power handling. usually 30w is the most i would go if you plan to stay with the factory deck. if replacing deck and adding amps later, go with at least 60w+

any pics of the deck? usually on the new civics they require a new dash trim piece to fit aftermarket deck.

Thanks for the reply,

It is not my car, a friends who I am helping with the install. Haven't seen the dash yet. Just getting some preliminary info.

Re: 2010 audio upgrade

Headunit install is pretty straight forward
You need a Metra Kit, which replaces the whole bezel.

https://metradealer.com/api/vfg/view-product/id/99-7871

And you also need a wiring harness

the speakers are :
Front Size: 6.5"; Depth: 4"
Front Tweeters: 1.25"; Depth: 2"
Rear Size: 6.5"; Depth: 3"
Subwoofer Size: 8"; Depth: 5"

I havent seen the backside of the stock headunit, so I cant tell you the preouts.

I'm starting to get tired of replying to audio threads, going to make a guide sometime in the near future

Thanks for the great info!

Did not know there was a stock sub in the car. Is it in the trunk? What is powering it?

Re: 2010 audio upgrade

they are terrible quality. the ipod direct connects have the best digital sound (ipod only), but the interface isnt great and it has its own problems.

I meant the line out converter for hooking up an external amp.

Re: 2010 audio upgrade

oh thats even worse. you wont have a clean signal to the amp unless you go aftermarket deck with lo volt rca preouts. speaker level inputs to the amp are never good.

That is what I thought. I have never used them in my cars, always changed out the deck.

No chance these stock decks have rca pre outs I assume?

But then again, i have never taken one of the newer ones out, please, if you do, let us know

I know that my 03 stock deck has no preouts at all

Re: 2010 audio upgrade

Well did the upgrade this week end to the deck. Must say, easiest install I have done yet.

We had to upgrade the dash kit with the metra one (thing of beauty!) and put in a double din Pioneer. Looks great (by the way it was a regular system, not the bose).

Only thing I have to figure out is the trip reset, etc panel is not not lit up so have to figure out which wire that is. Anyone have any idea?

Thans
