CANT SHIFT INTO 3RD. D light blinking

I have a 2012 Honda Civic...today i was driving and the dash said check emission and check transmission. The engine light came on and the green D light was blinking. Also it will not shift pass 2nd gear (automatic). Whats the issue and can i do it by myself?

What fault codes does it have?
That's the first step.

Fluid level correct? What's the fluid condition like?
Service history?
Mileage?

If you're stuck on a highway but the car will pull itself, I'd drive it to the next town....or call a tow truck if you're scared of driving it.

I had a similar problem with my 2009. The car would not shift in to a higher gear, I think it was 3rd gear, and the green "D" light was flashing. I checked the fluid level and it was normal. The dealer replaced the 2nd gear pressure switch and associated gasket. It fixed the problem.
