I think its coming from the suspension. 187k miles. Whenever going over unlevel ground especially when backing up hear a popping type noise. What could be causes of this?

if it is popping over a speed bump while you are not turning it should be the lower control arm bushings.
If it is while you are turning it could be the upper suspension seats or the ball joints. It could also be the tie rod end links (if it's while turning) but these make a different sound.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

The engine mount that goes bad a lot can also make a pop noise on bumps.
You're gonna need to investigate all of the suspension on your own to see what's loose or bad.
