Rep Power: 0 Trunk Latch Diagram/Advice.
Civic 2007 LX
It seems like my trunk won't latch. And it seems like the problem is the connection between the rod (attached to the keyhole mechanism) and the latching mechanism - it's either out of alignment, or no longer connected.
The thing is - that particular connection is hidden inside the metalwork.
So...
- can anybody point me at, or provide, a cutaway diagram of how the parts connect (the diagram in the Honda parts catalog leaves a lot to be desired), and/or,
- suggest how to reconnect those two pieces - given that they're not readily accessible
Thanks very much!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Use a small screwdriver to trip the latch with the lid wide open just to make sure it is a problem with the latch not latching correctly and not an issue with striker adjustment or the lid not closing all the way.
Examine the trunk release cable, make sure it isn't causing the problem. If the cable or the latch lever stays in the 'pulled' position for any reason, the latch would stay released and not latch.
The trunk lid should have a cutaway area so you can access the linkage rod on the key cylinder.
Plastic clip holds the rod on each end, simply push clip aside to release and remove the rod.
How this works should be apparent if you look at it closely
If you have to gain access to this rods connection point on the trunk latch itself, remove (unbolt) the latch from the trunk lid.

Ok, it looks like the circled piece is not moving fully into position, so the latch will not latch. Is there perhaps a spring missing, or is it a matter of bending the rod that connects the piece to the lock cylinder? I can't for the life of me see anything that looks like an adjustment, or anything that would have gone out of adjustment. Thanks!
