Alternative to Honda ATF

Any acceptable alternatives to Honda ATF? I drive past probably 10 parts stores before I get to the Honda dealer. Doing a drain & fill on 2006 Civic.

Re: Alternative to Honda ATF

Name brand (penzoil/castro/mobil) ATf is going to cost you $6-7 per quart. Honda ATF list price is something like $8. I would never suggest someone uses an universal ATF instead of Honda Atf.

Re: Alternative to Honda ATF

Absolutely correct fluid is not expensive and you don't have to wonder if it's right or not.
You only need to buy 3 quarts for a single drain and fill, surely you can afford the difference.

Replacing a trans is not cheap.

Re: Alternative to Honda ATF

The 8th gen 5AT has a great track record.

Spend a few $$ more and use OEM.
