When to replace battery
I have a 09 Civic LX which has been a great little car. I just realized that the OEM battery is going on 5 years old. I am having no problem with the battery, so should I replace it due to age or should I wait until it gives me problems ? Am I on borrowed time ? I live in a hot climate ( south Texas) Your opinion ?
Thanks,
Roger

Re: When to replace battery
Opinions will vary.
Test results can show if it is good, marginal, or bad right now (new style conductance testers don't really give an answer of "marginal" anymore), but a passing test today doesn't mean it won't take a poop tomorrow AM.
IMO if you have no issues right now, replacement it is entirely up to you.

Re: When to replace battery
I just had to replace the battery in my 2006.
Everything was fine with it, I went on a 5,000 mile trip for my honeymoon. At our hotel my wife left the light on so we had to get a jump.
Car ran fine all the way until we got home. the next day it struggled to start.
That battery had seen normal driving for about 80k miles, and had been pushing a 1000 watt (RMS) stereo system for the last 40k miles/ 2 years.

Re: When to replace battery
Congratulations on the marriage jorden. Batteries usually go bad at the worst time without any warning. (my last one left me stranded in the middle of no-where), so I guess it's a gamble. I can try to get another year or so out of my old battery or bite the bullet & spend 100.00. O'Reilly's has one in stock, are 2 blocks away, & I get a 10% retired Air force discount. That wasn't a hard decision...thanks all.
