heater issue

2009 Civic

I have developed a heater problem. If I put the car on normal heat...the air blowing out of the passenger side is cool the driver side is warm.
If I put the heater on Recirculate (or wnhatever that one is called that doesnt let outside air in) Both passenger and driver sides are warm.
Any ideas?

Re: heater issue

Warranty!?!?!?

I haven't run into this complaint. I don't see any relevant bulletins either.

Which vents specifically are you feeling this from? Floor? Dash? Which ones on the dash?

Is the temperature door actuator motor moving to the full heat position?

Cooling system full?

Proper mixture of coolant that tests between -20 to -40 degrees F? (Straight antifreeze doesn't transfer heat well.)

Re: heater issue

55k i think its still under warranty, but if its something simple I would rather fix myself than wait all day at dealer.
I havent put my hand down to the floor vents, but i feel the cool air coming from the mid level dash vents on passenger side.
cooling system is full with 50/50
Dont know how to check the actuator door to see if it moves,

Re: heater issue

Air Mix control motor would be right above your foot near the gas pedal on the side of the HVAC housing.

First step should be to check the HVAC unit for codes

Ignition OFF
press and hold the RECIRCulate and REAR WINDOW DEFROST buttons
turn the key ON (do NOT start the engine!)
The recirc light comes on for 2 seconds, then self-diag function begins.

Note:

The blower fan will run by itself
If there are multiple codes, only the lowest number code will be displayed
If NO codes, the indicator won't blink

(The instructions don't say if or when you can let go of the buttons! Experiment!)

So: You do this crap to get it into self test mode. The recirc light came on for 2 seconds and went out. The self test runs. The self test finishes. Any code will blink on the recirc light. Count the blinks to come up with a single digit code. The code blink pattern should repeat after every 1.5 seconds so you can make sure you counted correctly.

Codes:
1 Open in the air mix motor circuits

2 Short in the air mix motor circuits
3 Problem in the air mix linkage, door, or motor
4 Open or short in the mode control motor circuit
5 Problem in the mode control linkage, door, or motor
6 Blower motor circuit
7 HVAC control unit internal fault
8 Evap temp sensor open circuit
9 Evap temp sensor short circuit

The ones that say Problem are probably a physical problem that keeps the actuator motor from achieving full movement.

Re: heater issue

Dont know how to check the actuator door to see if it moves,

You lay on your back under the dash to see it, then operate the **** to max heat and max cold.Watch for movement.
