Before I bought my manual 2008 civic ex I use to have a 99 honda accord, and after the rpms went up the V-tec kicked in. but on my new Civic I can get to red line and there's no vtec. Does it not have a vtec since it's manual?

Sorry this has been bothering me for about a month now and I can't find anything about it on google :\.

Re: Standard 2008 civic ex vtec?
it called i-vtec on the R18. ( and all newer honda )

only the secondary intake valve is effected and the computer determines kick in point dependant upon speed, gear and throttle position now, not just set RPMs.

I can feel it and hear it in my 2008 EX. the R18 also has a dual lenght intake manifold that adjust to short runners at 5800 RPM.

Get the engine up to 5500 to 6000 and it starts to really pull.
It may not kick in neutral or if the car is not moving.

A visual from www.japanesecarfans.com / www.worldcarfans.com showing when iVTEC in the 1.8L engine kicks in is HERE.

Update: VTEC as implimented in the R18 is actually sorta "backwards" from that of the K20Z. That is, the R18 is in VTEC at low loads, and kicks out of it under higher loads.

Don't take my word for it though, see:
