i've heard alot about vtec engagment and air fuel ratio.....but the downside would be running to lean or to rich...i really want to educate myself on this a lot more i dont like being in the dark.

a vtec controller doesn't do much good unless you dyno tune it.

one thing you should NOT do is change the factory settings without dyno tuning. the good ol "butt dyno" does jack in this case, and without proper dyno tuning you could run too rich or too lean and really mess up your engine.

other than lowering your vtec engagement point just a slight bit, you can't do much with a vafc without dyno tuning.

With a stock cam the best vtec setting is stock. You can raise it to feel a nice kick but you are losing the lower end and not gaining anything up top. Changing your vtec setting is a waste. I've done it on the dyno. <-sounds a bit dirty huh? vafc2 is good as a fuel tuning tool and who knows, with the introduction of a few cams for the d17 by crower a vtec adjustment might actually help....we'll see.

but if it's not recommended changing the vtec setting then safc II is suffucient. i read on a different thread that someone changed their vtec setting to kick in at 3900RPM ant they gained like 8whp. any conformation it that's possible?

i have the VAFC II and that gaining 8whp just by changeing the vetc kick in time is complete bs. It just makes you vtec kick in at a sooner rpm. it is pretty much pointless to have it kick in below 4200rpm, because our cars have good power up until then. The VafcII is good for about 8-12whp when it is tuned right. I tuned mine with tons of advice from the professional tuners. it took me like a month to maxamize it on the street i don't have the time or money for dyno time. And as far as i know the safc or Vafc dosen't work on our cars. you need the 2. and you vcan not adjust the air/fuel as accurate on the 1, as you can on the 2. on the 2 you can go by 100rpm incriments, not 500rpm increiment. But both are nice to have my neighbor has the VAFC1 on his 95 Vic.

i never dynoed it, but maybe gear box just needs to learn how to use the thing. as i said it took me a while to tune mine and i can feel the diffrence. and can see my gas mialiage drop a little due to it. but well worth it.
