help...sound system and battery problem!

hey guys, i need your help please.

im having a problem with my battery dying. Recently, i jus hooked up my sub and amp (running about 500 watts). I also have a 4way amp hooked up for the 4 speakers which was there before. Everything worked fine at first, no problem at all...no dimming of headlights, etc.

However, after leaving the car overnight, for some reason the battery gets drained. I tried disconnecting the fuse for the sub and the problem was solved, so i'm pretty sure the sub is causing the problem. does anyone know what the potential problem could be? is it the alternator? i should also mention that there has been engine noises coming from my speakers for awhile now.

thanks.

I believe it's hooked up wrong, and your amp/sub is drawing power all the time. Did you do the installation yourself?

Re: help...sound system and battery problem!

i'm sure it could be lots of things.
it's possible some of the wires moved around over time, or it could be your amp.
Take it in to futureshop, have them have a look (it's free if they installed it), if not don't take it there.

Re: help...sound system and battery problem!

check your remote wire on the amp and head unit. usually a little blue wire. what the head unit uses to tell it to turn on and off

Re: help...sound system and battery problem!

It's hooked up wrong for sure. Check the red, white and black wires to see where your constant, switched and ground wires are connected. I'm guessing they hooked your amp to the cigarette lighter which in most cases is only powered when the car is on. But rarely you'll find a manufacturer that develops a vehicle where the lighter is powered constantly.

Re: help...sound system and battery problem!

Your alternator is bad therefor its reversed polarity draining you battery, or your battery is toast. Take them to your local pep boys or advanced auto and get them checked its free to check them.

hmmm, i would doubt taht the diodes are messed up in the alternator, but if it JUST happened, then it could be a possibility. If the check is free, might as well. Other than that, either bring it to future shop, or check the wiring yourself.

Exactly what I said. You shouldn't have to do this, your switched wire should take care of it for you. So you've got the wiring hooked up wrong.

Exactly what me and DeX said. It's wired wrong. If you take it back to future shop, they'll fix it for free. I believe they have a (much needed) lifetime warranty with their (crappy) installations.
