Wiring Gurus.... LED GAUGE.. HELP

Hey guys here's my question:

I purchased one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-3-Blue...QQcmdZViewItem

The unit runs off of 5V so I purchased a 7805 5V regulator to supply power to the unit. I tried running the input for testing off of my distribution block and the unit read nothing. It powers up, but reads zero only.

Now I know the car is supposed to convert AC to DV and this unit is intended to read AC up to 20V. There is a DC gauge but it reads amps and I want voltage. Am I doing something wrong or is this gauge broken?

Here is a drawing from the seller. The DC input is easy from anywhere in the car, but where the crap do I get the AC current to monitor voltage?

I really don't think that was intended for automotive use. (no 20V AC available)

It was my mistake for not buying DC. Lesson learned.
