Brakes - clunking sound

Hi.
Would anyone know why I am getting a clunking sound when apply the brakes. This happens off and on, especially when going down an incline. Sound is coming from up front. Would it be my brake pads?
Thanks for any help you may have.

Re: Brakes - clunking sound

I recently experienced this after installing new rotors/pads.
Turns out, the clunk I was hearing when applying the brake pedal was because my pads were too small. I bought cheap brake pads off eBay (no name stuff), and they *seemed* to fit just fine. Then the clunk started. I went to Acura to have them look everything over, and they discovered that the front pads were too small, and were moving when I pushed the brake.
Bought some brand name pads... installed... no more clunk.

---

Remove one of your front wheels, and reach your fingers around the pad holder and see if you can wiggle the pad at all. Try to slide it all over the place - front, back, up, down, in, out ... if it moves, that could be your problem.

Thank you. Your information was correct. Took the car to the dealer and sure enough the brake pads ( not Honda pads, but after market pads) and were not fitting correctly.
They adjusted them and turned the rotors. Working great now!!!!!

Re: Brakes - clunking sound

Hi. The Honda dealer greased and lubricated the pads on the caliper. They made the pads fit but not sure the method they used. They told me I did not need new pads as they only had 20% wear....and they could adjust the pads. Car works great with no clunking sound.
