Re: Small Spare Wheel

What do you mean by fix? If you mean can you use the 13" wheel while you have a flat on the 14" wheel then the answer is yes. If it is not a full size tire I dont reccomend you drive on it very long since they are only for very short trips and are just used so you can get from where you are to the next local tire place.

ya its there but dont drive over 25-30mph and not too far. those things arent made for normal driving and can mess up your car.

Out of curiosity, how does it mess up the car? I've heard that before but I don't really know how..

Re: Small Spare Wheel

since the diameter is smaller, it will put uneven load on the suspension and may wear out the other tires in different spots. these are long term problems that can develop and may require a set of new tires, suspension parts to break or come loose, and warped rotor. spare tire is simply to get you to the next exit off the freeway so you can fix the flat tire. it even says most of this right on the spare tire. people who think they can keep driving as tho its a normal tire are in for a big surprise down the road. thats why alot of people carry a full size spare, and some even get an extra rim so it doesnt look bad.

thanks for the explanation -- i was aware that it said on the spare tire that you shouldn't drive for long distances with it, but i didn't know exactly why other than the tire might blow from the pressure.

hm, interesting..thanks again!

Re: Small Spare Wheel

yeah the biggest risk is the tire overheating (due to small surface area) and popping. and that will happen very quickly at freeway speeds. also another problem people dont realize is all rubber tires have a useable life of around 6 yrs. after that, it becomes very unsafe due to the rubber drying out and becoming brittle. so alot of people have spares that have been around for maybe 10-20 yrs and someday they might use it. also, most people do not check their spare tire air pressure. it is normally supposed to be 60 psi i think, and if you dont keep it filled up, it will drop down to 15-20 psi and when the time comes to use it, you will basically be driving on a near flat tire.
