Knocking Sound on '02 Civic?

I've noticed lately that when I apply the brakes lightly and a low speed, I hear what I interpret as a knocking sound coming from the front driver's side wheel. If I am travelling at around 50 km/h and slow down to come to a stop, I usually don't here it, but as the car slows down to 5 or 10 km/h, I can hear it. I even tried driving at about 5 km/h an hour with my foot lightly on the brake and could still hear it.

I have a 2002 Honda Civic LX. Any ideas about what this noise could be? We talked to a mechanic and he said it could just be a "safety clip" on the brake that has come loose.

Wheel nuts loose / missing / nicked
broken spring
loose /worn front wheel bearing
CV / ball joint

My guess would be cv joint or wheel bearing. If it's your wheel bearing, it'll get louder very soon and I'd advise against driving on it. Jack up your car and try to shake your wheel from side to side. If you're able to then take it to a garage.

Yea, I would advise you do what Dex said shake your wheel in all directions and see if its loose. If not then you can rule out ball joints and bearings.

I just got my timing belt done a few days ago, and the mechanic checked the breaks, trans axle and CV joint and nothing is wrong. I did jack up the car and wiggled the wheel in all directions and there was no movement.
