Question What is this parts function Question Answered
I’m replacing the shift cable on a 2003 Civic EX SRS with BMXA A/T the cable assembly is known in Honda lingo as:

Honda 54315-S5D-A85

Wire, Control

there is a cylindrical object that has no wires or mechanical connections and is welded to a bracket. It’s about the size of a “C” size dry cell battery.
What is it, and what is its purpose?
Disregard the two holes I drilled in the ears of the bracket in an attempt to repair.

It holds the cable in place so it can work properly. It will be like $5 at a junkyard if you need another one.

Yes, the bracket holds the cable but what function does the cylindrical object perform?
