airbag screw

I brought my 2003 civic in to the dealer today for the Takata airbag recall service. When I got home I found a screw laying on the dashboard that wasn't there before. See the image below. Does this need to be screwed back in or can I toss it? I called the dealer to ask about this but am still waiting to hear back from them. I want to make sure it is safe to drive it. Thanks for any input.

Re: airbag screw

Air bag isn't excessively loose in the steering wheel, right? Pull on it, it should not stick way out on one side. All good? Horn honks?

You can look into the 2 holes in the sides of the wheel (behind the upper spokes, one on each side) and you SHOULD be able to see the heads of 2 new TORX bolts. You may need a flashlight to see them.

Toss that bolt, it's now an extra.

The kit comes with 2 new bolts, the ones we remove sometimes fall on the floor and roll under the seat and can't be seen. Out of sight, out of mind...we forget to toss them out.

Man, I can't find a good pic on google images.... this is close....
Where this steering wheel has a small cover, your Civic does not.
Yours has a plain hole there just big enough for the entire bolt to pass through.

Re: airbag screw

Thanks for the reassurance. I didn't know that the kit comes with extra bolts. Sounds like this is probably just an "extra" now. I forgot to mention that this was for the passenger side airbag. I guess I'd have to pry off that panel in order to check if all the bolts are in?

Re: airbag screw

No....The passengers unit is accessed by opening the glovebox all the way, same as if you were going to replace your cabin filters. It isn't held in with the same bolts, it uses a set of nuts.

The bolt you showed was for the drivers bag.
Check your paperwork, it probably got both replaced? Or got the driver unit inspected.

Re: airbag screw

Sorry, I was wrong, it was both passenger and driver airbags.
