Need help breaking a bad habit

Normally my routine is I hop in the civic, slap the key in the ignition and take off right away. Now that I have my remote start, twice so far I have either stomped on the brake and killed the remote start, or tried to start a running car and hear the starter grinding. Any tips to help get past this? I dont want to ruin my starter or flywheel

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

The only one that can break your habit is you.
Shut the car off before you get in it?
