Wow. I wonder how much gas you can give that baby before it tries to pick a wheel up off the ground for you...

Amazing work, looks like a lot of fun!

Re: A Little Project

Well, after much waiting - I picked her up yesterday...

One note, as you look through the pics - you'll notice the valve cover, which was blue, is now red....

Decided on a Black and Red color scheme (note its sporting new emblems)

Currently the basemap is loaded, I need to drive it for ~ 500 mi to break in the motor, then she goes back for the real tune

Was instructed to stay below 3K RPMs for the time being

Even with this limitation, all I can say is wow... its simply a completely different car

The shift pattern is tighter than tight

And the sound, there is a noticeable (throaty) difference from a stock 4 cylinder with an aftermarket muffler only

Long *** wait, but worth it

I'll post the dyno sheet when I get it tuned

And I plan to keep this thread alive as I swap the suspension - but realistically that is still a couple of months away (be busy playing with the car for now)

Here ya go....

Re: A Little Project

Little update;

When the car runs, it runs great, but been having timing chain tensioner issues

Motor built with a stage II cam - and appears it has too much lift (known issue w/ K20s and high lift cams)

So far its gone through two of the "purported best" TCTs

Plan is to swap cams to a Type S cam (less lift) and try it again

In the meantime, been researching how to beef up the TCT, though not having much success finding a solution

Workin out the bugs - gotta love it

Re: A Little Project

Been awhile, so here's the latest,

Motor bugs all worked out and running like butter

Ended up w/ Type R cams, eliminated the timing chain tensioner issues

Replace the TPS w/ a K Tune TPS..., the plastic one kept slipping and the motor would idle crappy

Found an Air filter that would fit over the turbo..., also fab'b a screen (best of both worlds)

Had an issue shifting into 3rd smoothly..., changed to Redline synthetic oil - problem fixed

Motor oil..., running diesel synthetic - it holds up better to high heat

Snapped the passenger side axle..., replaced both axles with some high HP (1000 hp) axles

Bought some HFP side skirts, which didn't come with brackets, so I need to fab some before they get installed - going to look good imo

Replaced the shift boot with a real leather one, that has red stitching

Leather steering wheel - inbound

Bought a new hood, going to have a custom hood scoop made and get rid of the one on there now

Installed hood spacers to help eliminate engine bay heat

Motor is ready for the tune

=======================

Suspension

Found some ABS sensors

Bought the SI eBrake cables - they're the same length as the RSX and EP

Only thing I need are tires and wheels and the suspension is ready to be installed

======================
Side note

I beat one of those big Harley bikes light to light - guy looked over, smiled and gave a big thumbs up

Beat so many camaros & mustangs I've lost count

Although it does feel like I have a target on the car - everyone with a so called rot rod wants to race..., once we do and they catch back up - they all have this stupefied look..., quite funny actually

Car is a down right blast

===========================

Once I get the side skirt mounting figured out I'll post some pics

I'll also post some pic of the suspension swap (its getting close)

eta; Forgot to add, also installed side marker turn signals - they look good

Drive safe...., and like ya stole it

Sounds awesome, I'd love to have a sleeper build like yours. The car looks great, and the engine build is sweet!

That has to be great to see the looks on peoples faces. Especially the people who don't understand the potential of small displacement engines.

Glad to hear everything is running good

Re: A Little Project

Well crap.... car was dyno tuned today - didn't get the 600 HP I was boasting about... did get 555 WHP though... I suppose I can live with it

Don't have the dyno yet, but lets see it this will work

Enjoy

Re: A Little Project

Last update was in Nov…, and I had reported the car having 555 WHP on a dyno

After driving it a bit, I did not believe it

Had every warning light illuminated – but it was throwing no error codes

And way.., way too many “bugs”

Frustrated… and not wanting to post erroneous information – I stopped posting

=================

Between then (my last post) and now..,

Located another performance shop…

Was interviewed by the owner (2 1/2 hour interview to figure out what I was looking for)

Placed on a waiting list

Finally got the car in to the new shop about 3 months ago

Car has undergone a complete – and I mean complete – transformation

The new suspension / brakes / wheels & tires have also been installed

Tomorrow I go to watch the initial dyno

There remains a short list of issues to work out (redo the fuel system / fab a heat shield for brake fluid bottle / build an overflow container for the valve cover breather)

But essentially it is done

==================

I can honestly say…, as drastic the change from the stock civic to when the K20 motor was installed

This most recent transformation goes far beyond that

The goal was always to make a hot rod… not a tuner…, not a ricer…, but a hot rod – out of a Honda Civic no less

A sleeper car that is reliable…, has high horse power… high performance – and hopefully not another one like it

I’ll try to get some pictures tomorrow and post em

Otherwise I should have the car back in a couple of weeks and will post some then

====================

This little project has been a year and 4 months in the making – and I couldn't be happier with where it’s at.., and headed

To be continued...

This is only the initial set of runs - shooting for 550 "legit" HP

Motor guy said we'll get there and be reliable

Also notice the torque curve

Re: A Little Project

Update;

Picked the car up last Sunday – now I have a bipolar Honda

Below 3200 RPM – drives / handles like a little kitty cat

Easy to get off the line…, idles around town great…, @ 3100 RPM on the highway..., cruises at an easy 70 MPH…, runs all day…, and night on 10 gallons of gas

In this state…, other than an abnormally deep rumble.., and wide *** tires sticking beyond the fenders – one would never know it as anything but a hopped up civic

=======================

Now..., on the other hand

3500 RPM to 8K+ – it flat hauls ***… it’s loud…, it’s a beast

In this state…, simply seeing the other driver’s facial expressions is worth the price of admission – lol

I am beyond happy with the results (granted its taken awhile but well worth it imo)

==============

Funny side note;

Came across a 2 seat Honda convertible earlier this week (dual exhaust no less )

I pulled along side and waved trying to be friendly..., received dirty look in return

We then pull up to a stop light – light turns green – he tries showing me up – didn’t go well…, for him

======

Next upgrades;

KSport Coilovers – they’re due in Monday (I'll be installing setting the suspension up)

Recaro front seats and 5 point harnesses – seats are on back order till Sept

Hood scoop and possibly new paint job (keeping same color…, but maybe adding ghost flames)

Drive it.., and enjoy the show

================

I’ll take some pictures this weekend and post them

Be safe/ and drive safe

Ghost
