Should I get this fender?

I'm in need of a new front fender and fender liner for my 02 lx. I called my local dealership and they are wanting 240 dollars for a new fender and then another 200+ dollars to paint it. A salvage yard I got a hold of said they can get me a new fender for 60 bucks. Should I go for the cheaper one or am I going to end up buying from the dealer anyways? I know some yards can be sheisty...

Re: Should I get this fender?

The difference between a new and salvage fender is how much time it takes to return the salvage fender to like new condition. If you are paying someone to do this the final cost may be close to the same. If you are doing this yourself the savings can be significant. You mention the salvage yard saying they can get a new fender for $60, if they really mean new and not off a car then it is probably really cheap Chinese junk and may or may not ever fit right.

If you plan to paint the fender yourself with a rattle can then I would get the cheapest fender and just spray it. It's going to look so bad that it won't make any difference. How bad it will look depends on the color of the car.
